Dell (DELL), which was bumped from its number two spot by Taiwan’s Acer in 2009 to become the third-largest PC maker worldwide, might have reclaimed its old place during the second quarter. Market research firm IDC indicated that the race for second place (behind leader Hewlett-Packard) was indeed secured by Dell, however rival research firm Gartner said that Acer kept its lead over Dell in the Q2 period.

Desktop Category Aced by Acer

The most recent report from Gartner India has placed Acer on top of HP, making it market leader in the desktop class, for Q1 2010.

As per Acer, it could sell almost 1, 58,000 desktops, commercial and consumer, in Q1 2010, whilst HP sold almost 1, 52,000 desktop PCs.

Last quarter, as per IDC India account, in the general PC, Notebooks and Desktops shared, market, HP kept the top spot, with a market share of 16.2 per cent, in terms of unit shipments, whilst Dell and Acer closed in with 13.6 per cent and 10.4 per cent, correspondingly.
