Men’s Wearhouse Beats the Analysts in Q2

Men's Wearhouse (MW) guarantees that you'll like the way you look in the suits the company sells. But are you guaranteed to like being an actual investor in the retailer? Over the last year, the stock has basically been a trading vehicle. On Wednesday, the shares closed at $21. At the time of this writing, they were up 4.8% to $22.01 during the afternoon session. That's still below the 52-week high of $27.67.

Back in June, I thought the business might be a buy for a short-term gain. What about now? Well, the second-quarter earnings report was posted yesterday after the bell. TheFly says that earnings of 80 cents per share topped the consensus estimate by three pennies.

Staples: An “Easy Button” to Profits?

If you're looking to hit the "easy button" and make some money in the stock market, you might want to look at Staples (SPLS).

Goldman Sachs -- citing the firm's growing market share and moves to buy back stock -- recently placed Staples on its Conviction Buy List and raised its price target from $22 to $23.

Of course, the stock is going to have to break out of the downtrend it has been in for the past few months before this looks like an attractive technical trade, but the fundamentals are starting to line up.

Good News for Adobe: Apple Allows Flash on Devices

Adobe Systems (ADBE - option chain) shares are rising today after after Apple (AAPL) announced it will relax restrictions on development tools used by mobile application developers. The change in policy allows developers to resume using ADBE's Flash software in their apps, which had been effectively banned before the announcement. If you think that the stock won't fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on ADBE.

ADBE opened this morning at $31.90. So far today the stock has hit a low of $31.30 and a high of $32.87. As of 12:10, ADBE is trading at $32.54 up $3.23 (11.0%). The chart for ADBE looks bullish and S&P gives ADBE a positive 5 STARS (out of 5) strong buy ranking.

Toys R Us to Open Mall Express Stores for Holidays

Toys R Us announced Thursday morning that it will open 600 temporary "express" stores in malls and shopping centers around the country this holiday season, the Associated Press reported. Toys R Us is looking to capitalize on a dearth of toys stores in malls, a predicament caused when KB Toys went out of business in 2008.

"We've been very aggressive during the economic downturn, and this is another aggressive action," said CEO Jerry Storch. "During the holiday season, mall traffic ramps up, and this will allow customers to purchase fill-in toys."

Oppenheimer upgraded Teva (TEVA) to outperform from perform. The firm expects the company to generate strong 2H10 earnings and thinks the competition created by Novartis’s (NVS) Gilenia will be limited.
Citigroup upgraded Celanese (CE) to buy from hold, citing valuation and the company’s move to add assets in China, as well as possible takeover interest.
Needham raised Stereotaxis (STXS) to buy from hold as the firm thinks that strong clinical data recently announced by the company could result in faster adoption rates of its robotic surgery.
BMO Capital upgraded Smurfit-Stone Container (SSCC) given strength in the containerboard market.
Melco Crown (MPEL) was upgraded to buy from neutral at UBS.
Goldman Sachs raised Temple-Inland (TIN) to buy from neutral.
Barclays upgraded Lloyds Banking (LYG) to equal weight from underweight.
