Orissa High Court issues notice on land acquisition for POSCOPosco India, State and Central government received notices from Orissa government on PIL charging illegal forest clearance granted in favour of the company for a steel plant in Jagatsinghpur district.

The notices are issue by a HC’s division bench comprise of Chief Justice V Gopal Gowda and Justice B N Mohapatra after the introductory hearing on PIL and finally adjourned the matter to May 25 as its next hearing.

ArcelorMittal reported a sharp drop in first-quarter earningsArcelorMittal, steel major announced on Wednesday a cut down in the earnings in the first quarter. The earnings were dropped due to lower sales and output. As a result of this announcement company’s shares were opened more than 2 percent lower on Wednesday.

ArcelorMittal, a unit of the world’s top steelmaker declares its earnings fell to 49 cents as compared to last year earnings of 16 cents during the same period.

Tata Steel's crude steel production exceeds installed capacity

Last year, Tata Steel has gone through expansion and after completing its expansion, this is the first time, company’s crude steel production exceed its installed capacity. It has been recorded that company’s production has increased by 4.4% over 6.564 mt for FY 2009-10.

The steel major installed capacity is 6.800 mt and company has shown an overall improvement with crude steel production of 6.855 million tonne (mt) surpassing its installed capacity in 2010-11.
